UI design intern
When I was 18 years old, I didn’t really know what to do with my life. Should I go to university, should I study graphic design? Or should I become a programmer? I wasn’t terribly good at maths, but also not really an “artist”.
After some traveling, I eventually I found a book called Web design with Web Standards, and it changed everything for me. By learning HTML and CSS, and having some pre-existing Photoshop skills I landed my first web design job.
I learned so much in the first months, from coding websites, to what a CMS actually was, to diving deeper into graphic design. The company mission at the time was to work on making the web a better place, and I worked hard to make it a reality.
I never stopped learning from that point on. From learning to code, to teaching myself to be better at icon design, to designing complex business software. The industry evolved and I evolved along with it. Apps became a big thing. Responsive design came and was there to stay. These days, AI unlocks new workflows.
Today, I am embarking on my second run to build an agency. After the succesful run with Mono, where we built a high-quality agency that ran for seven years, I am going to do it again, but this time bigger and better.
I want to give someone a chance to get started in the world of web design, UI design and front-end development.
Some people I’ve mentored in the past went on to have a succesful career: one person went from design intern to eventually being a senior designer, landing a job at Autodesk; two people who made the jump from being an employee to a design freelancer with a filled client roster, earning a great living.
This is not just a job for anyone. You need to be a highly motivated individual willing to put in the work. Doing this right will require a combination of self-study, a willingness to experiment, and the ability to learn project by project.
You will get a combination of real and fictional work to up your skillset in order to become a working designer.
