Revamping Windows software to increase operational efficiency
We helped bFlash improve with a revamp of their tuning software, increasing operational efficiency.

What is bFlash?
Luxembourg-based bFlash provides tools and software for automotive control unit reprogramming. With bFlash, you can read out car data and reprogram the electronic control unit in a car.
We helped bFlash with a usability review of their software, which led to a redesign of specific features. In this process, we visited the environment where the software is used: a garage. We talked extensively to users of the software, like technical mechanics, to understand how they use it.

Design work leading to usability testing
The discovery from the interviews, combined with bFlash’s software roadmap, led to new designs. Great care was taken to make the software work in a garage environment from an ergonomics perspective, offering large controls and dark mode.
Another big aspect was improving the software while not alienating current users. When a critical usability test participant mentioned that the designs were a very nice evolution, we knew we were on the right track to ship the design.
Adherence to Windows 11, while still incorporating the bFlash brand
bFlash is Windows desktop software. Within the project, we adhered to the Windows 11 UI guidelines while still applying the bFlash brand elements.
We extended Windows controls like data tables with automotive-specific UI elements. In our deliverable, we provided every screen and UI state recreated in Figma for a perfect implementation. We also drew several custom icons showing off specific automotive concepts in collaboration with the customer.
