Crafting a shadcn/ui kit in the philosophy of shadcn

shadcn/ui is rapidly becoming the UI framework of choice for many developers.

We created a shadcn/ui library as a free community resource, that follows the philosophy of shadcn/ui. Our kit rapidly grew in popularity, reaching over 40,000 designers in Figma community in just over 6 months.

Based on this project, we were asked by several design teams to customize the kit for them. We've worked with product and marketing teams across the globe to create a customized version of the kit. Generally, the idea is to customize to help their internal design team on their way.

We continued to improve it, and share resources and information about this project via our documentation website. This website contains a blog, screencast-type videos about how to use the kit and a changelog that lists the latest updates.

Given the success of the kit, we started offering sprint-based customization services; you can read all about it on this page. This is perfect for customers who are going through a re-branding and need a design system that is optimized for AI coding.

In March 2026, we released the Pro version of our shadcn/ui kit, marking our first foray into launching a product. We executed on a 3-month roadmap of planned improvements, leading to over $20,000 in kit sales.

In August 2026, we relaunched the kit as 2.0. The free Community version is the most complete, up-to-date and professional shadcn/ui kit on Figma Community, and it gives designers a clear upgrade path to Obra shadcn/ui Pro.
